May 14th, some remember it as the day the first permanent British settlement was founded in Jamestown, Virginia back in 1607. Others might think of Edward Jenner administering the first smallpox vaccination in 1796. Maybe the day when Lewis and Clark left St Louis on their way to make the Louisiana purchase in 1804. For the small nation of Israel it is their day of Independence. After the great patriotic wars, the nation of Israel was granted international status and has remained a pillar of the International community for 78 years. While the Jewish people largely celebrate today there is a portion of the world who call Israel’s existence Nakba meaning catastrophe. The Israel Palestine conflict is as old as time itself, at least as a Christian. Trump Declared the Iran Ceasefire on “Life-support”, after rejecting Tehran’s Latest proposal. Saudi Aramco warned global oil markets could lose upwards of 100M barrels a week if the Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted.
Europe sanctions Israel
The EU unanimously has sanctioned Israeli settlers in the west bank due to violence. Keir Starmer the UK Prime Minister suffered major losses in a recent election and over 70 Labour MPs have called for his resignation. There is a growing anti-immigrant portion of Britain which could be part of the trend. Given the migrant rape gang stories he covered for cant say I’m surprised.
Chinese news
This week’s Trump–Xi summit in Beijing proved to be one of the most consequential diplomatic meetings in recent memory, with two of the world’s most volatile flashpoints Iran and Taiwan, sitting at the center of the table. President Trump arrived in Beijing for two days of talks with Xi Jinping, his first visit to China since 2017, accompanied by high-profile executives including Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, as Xi opened the summit by declaring, “The whole world is watching our meeting.” On the Taiwan question, Xi placed the issue front and center, calling it “the most important issue” between the two nations, and warned Trump of the potential for “conflict” a pointed signal that Beijing’s red lines remain firm even as Washington pursues broader deal-making.
On Iran, a confidential US intelligence assessment found that China has made major strides against the United States across economic, military, and diplomatic domains, reportedly exploiting the instability generated by the ongoing war in the Middle East raising uncomfortable questions about whether Beijing benefits from a prolonged American entanglement in the region. Taken together, the summit painted a picture of a relationship that is simultaneously indispensable and deeply adversarial: two superpowers seeking trade and tech agreements on one hand, while jockeying for global influence on the other, with Iran’s war and Taiwan’s future serving as the highest-stakes chips on the table.
Star wars
This week there is a chance for you to watch Star wars while the Colorado Symphony performs the legendary music Live! Funny how every May 4th people make Star wars Jokes. Well this “joke” from one of the films actors didn’t go over well with his entire audience.

There were calls for his arrest for this tweet. Which is understandable given the multiple attempts made on Trumps life already. One thing is certain, Mark Hamill doesn’t like the president. But the over the top vitriol for one man and his legacy is fitting for a dude who will be remembered by throwing his light saber over his shoulder.
