Colorado’s Primary races are on, Ballot measures are in.

Colorado is looking for a new Governor. Governor Jared Polis is term limited this year, meaning he cannot run for reelection. Due to this there is a huge race for Governor here in Colorado. But there are several more important races happening around the state that would be worth keeping an eye on, namely AG and SOS. But most importantly we have three historic Citizen led ballot initiative through Protect Kids Colorado that would shift the states power back into the hands of parents and put child safety at the forefront of state actions. District 8 is going to be a tight race along with District 3 and 4. District 8 will be decided by the unaffiliated voters.

Hello Governor

For the Governors race you have 2 primary democrat candidates in Phil Weiser, and Michael Bennet. Weiser is largely funded by small dollar donations while Bennet is funded mostly through PACs. On the Republican ticket you have Scott Bottoms, Victor Marx, and Barbra Kirkmeyer. Victor Marx has the largest fundraising of all of the candidates, but even if you add all the republican cash on hand together it doesn’t match up to the democrats war chest. This will be important as the primaries end and the race to November begins.

The attorney General and the Secretary of State race are both in play. For attorney General you have two republican options in the primary and a host of democrats. Michael Allen District Attorney for the 4th Judicial District. The stronger/more prominent Republican candidate. David Willson The other qualified candidate. On the Democrat ticket you have Hetal Doshi, Michael Dougherty, Jena Griswold, and David Seligman. There have been many issues concerning national election integrity surrounding Jena Griswold and Phil Weiser. They still insist its the Gold Standard of elections. Keep that in mind when voting who has the power of the law in Colorado. Michael Dougherty seems like a fine Democratic nominee for Attorney General.

The secretary of state race is going to be an interesting one. James Wiley the only republican running is a member of the chainsaw caucus and is running on “Libertarian Nationalism“. There are two Dems running, Jessie Danielson, and Amanda Gonzales. There are 4 other candidates running either libertarian, unaffiliated, or forward party. I did not include the names of the candidates as the primary is not important to cover them and it is unlikely any of them win, ask James Wiley who comes from a libertarian background and is running as a republican.

Ballot Measures Baby!

Now something way closer to my interest and heart the ballot measures we have in November. There are three ballot measures to discuss, 108, 109, and 110. Ballot measure 108 would ensure life in prison for those who would sexually traffic children, ensuring that Colorado law backs up that children are not for sale. Measure 109 would protect females in sports. By declaring that Men and Women have unique and immutable characteristics this measure would prevent biological males from competing in female sports. Lastly, measure 110 would outlaw gender transition surgery for minors and prohibit state or federal funding from funding such surgeries.

No matter your stance on transgender issues, it clearly has exploded in the last 10 years. Full transition surgeries could cost the taxpayer up to $150,000 a piece. These are generally considered medically non necessary procedures and currently the taxpayer is being asked to foot the bill. All of this work is possible due to one mom. Who had her daughter nearly taken from her through this radical transgender ideology being pushed through school faculty, yet persevered. I want to Highlight Protect Kids Colorado and specifically Erin Lee for her incredible work fighting the unimaginable evil that has set up in our state.

Tight races

The three tightest district races are going to be for District 8, where Gabe Evans sits as an incumbent, District 3 where Jeff Hurd sits as an incumbent, and District 4 where Lauren Boebert sits as incumbent. District 8 is by far the tightest margin, Gabe Evans won this district with 49% of the vote while his challenger had 48.5%. It was a historic victory to flip this seat republican and will be a decent challenge to keep it. Both Jeff Hurd and Lauren Boebert are in republican favored districts and are expected to keep their seats short of an injection of democrat money into these races, and even then it would be close.

As the Primaries ramp up its important to note that 47% of the voting base in Colorado is unaffiliated. Primaries matter, they are the actual mechanism of change. Far fewer people vote in the primary or local elections. Your voice has more power when less people are speaking, so use it. Maybe they know what is important, family, freedom, and faith. Political partisanship has done a number on this country and its time to restore it. Republicans aren’t Nazis, Democrats aren’t ALL socialists, but we’re all American. It’s high time we start acting like it before we get sent to learing centers.
